ARPANET

ARPANET was the world's first operational packet switching network and the core network.

It was born out of J. C. R. Licklider's 1962 memo discussing his concept for an “Intergalactic Computer Network”. This memo contained almost everything that composes the contemporary Internet.

Ivan Sutherland and Bob Taylor worked on it as well. It came to compose the global Internet.
