			Zygmunt Bauman (19 November 1925 – 9 January 2017) was a Polish-British sociologist and one of the most prolific social theorists of the late twentieth century. Born to a Jewish family in Poznań, he fled to the Soviet Union with his family when Germany invaded in 1939, served in the Soviet-controlled Polish First Army, and returned to Poland to teach at the University of Warsaw.
