Description

The Astonishing Tribe (TAT) is visionary design firm who is known for prototypes and films of futuristic user interfaces and industrial design. The firm was founded by ___ and ___ in Malmö, Sweden in ____ to research and protoype advanced interaction methods with new technologies. TAT's gesture-based interactions and visual recognition software demos and concept videos went viral online, causing them to catch the attention of many, including the press and also RIM (Blackberry's Research in Motion), which later acquired TAT in ___. The acquisition will allow the firm the ability to build and implement many of their visionary concepts.

TAT is unique in that they were one of the first to really leverage the power of online communities and the scalable platform of online video to tell the story of a design future. Because their videos were so forward-thinking, and demonstrated cases in which technologies could be used in futuristic situations much before the market of physical, everyday objects could produce these ideas, they blocked industries from patenting their ideas. Post-acquisition they will likely not operate in the same way, but be more internally-focused.
