Cosmotechnics
Definition
Loosely translated, Cosmotechnics is the idea that every culture has its own technology. It challenges the idea that technology is universal, and instead suggests that it's constrained by local cosmologies.
Cosmotechics can be expressed academically in a variety of ways. It can be applied to everything from permaculture to any way of understands that things need to be in relation to a local environment (including our cultural landscape when it comes to built materials). Some people prefer the term requisite variety.
Putting this concept into practice in an economy focused on narrow definitions of technology (technology is new, electronic, or Silicon-Valley shaped) is difficult. While it is not a novel concept, the wider spread of its implementation might change the way societies and cultures approach building cities, tools, and electronics.
