Alice Marwick
Biography
Alice E. Marwick (@alicetiara) is a postdoctoral researcher at Microsoft Research in Cambridge, MA, where she works closely with danah boyd studying social software. She received her PhD from the Department of Media, Culture, and Communication at NYU in 2010. Her dissertation examined how people use social media to boost social status, focusing on life-streaming, micro-celebrity, and self-branding.

Biography
Alice Marwick has a PhD from the Department of Media, Culture and Communication at New York University, a MA in Communication from the University of Washington, and a BA in Political Science and Women’s Studies from Wellesley College. She has previously published in New Media and Society, Convergence, First Monday, Critical Studies in Media Communication and Information, Communication & Society. Marwick has presented at more than 20 academic conferences and appears frequently in print media, including The New York Times, The American Prospect, The Guardian, BusinessWeek and Wired Magazine. She is currently a postdoctoral researcher in social media at Microsoft Research New England, where she works closely with danah boyd, and collaborates with the Berkman Center for Internet and Society at Harvard Law School. Marwick has worked in the technology industry since 1995.
