Definiton

Soft science fiction is fiction based on the "softer" sciences such as anthropology, philosophy and sociology, vs. the hard sciences of bioengineering or physics. Soft Science Fiction allows the writer to create and explores alternative social scenarios and worlds, causing the reader to consider them in a new light. The Star Trek storyline is a mix of hard and soft fiction. The hard sciences of space travel and faster than light technology are combined with a new multitide of the social, economic and political aspects of different peoples and worlds.
